You’re an Artist
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
You’re an Artist
You paint still life
Yeah, you’re an artist
Your work is so sublime
You’re an actor
In film and on the stage
Yeah, you’re an actor
Your work is all the rage
You’re a poet
Published in the States
Yeah, you’re a poet
Your work is really great
You’re a dancer
Specialising in ballet
Yeah, you’re a dancer
You move your body everyday
You’re a model
The camera loves your face
Yeah, you’re a model
All elegance and grace
But I’m a worker
With no artistic traits
Yeah, I’m a worker
As are my associates

Life in Isolation
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
I took all the books you lent me
And all the poetry you wrote
And all the letters that you sent me
Now they’ve all gone up in smoke
Strike a match and light a fire
To our love a funeral pyre
As I excommunicate
Throw away and send to waste
Broken hearts and bitter rivals
Are all struggling for survival
The odds were never in our favour
Now we both can taste the failure
Now it’s life in isolation
Cutting off communication
You make me feel so berated
See you round and see you later

The Ballad of Lilly McGowan
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
This is a story that needs to be told
A tale of sadness a tale of woe
There once was a girl with hair just like gold
With lips just like cherries a sight to behold
Lilly McGowan was nineteen years old
And men came a calling her hand they would hold
Along came Jack Kelly with roses of red
Convincing poor Lilly to enter his bed
Li Li Li Li Li Li Li Li
In the Spring of that year the couple was wed
And Lilly McGowan was a Kelly instead
Along came a baby and then they were set
But the child was sickly and soon it was dead
Li Li Li Li Li Li Li Li
Lilly and Jack, they prayed and they wept
Then Jack took up drinking and soon Lilly left
Lilly was broken and Jack was a mess
Distant and lonely and full of regret
Li Li Li Li Li Li Li Li
This is a story that needs to be told
A tale of sadness a tale of woe

Monday Night
Words and music © Bruce Campbell, 1989
I light another cigarette
Put it in my mouth as I start to write
It’s a common place
It’s just another average Monday night
I don’t have to worry
There’s nothing to do but I really don’t mind
Strangers
Simply waste my money and my time
Don’t waste my time
It’s just another average Monday night
Don’t waste my time
It’s just another average Monday night
I look across my bedroom
And through the window I see a streetlight
It’s a common place
It’s just another average Monday night
I don’t have to worry
There’s nothing to do but I really don’t mind
I could leave here
But I think I’ll stay for I feel fine
Don’t waste my time
It’s just another average Monday night
Don’t waste my time
It’s just another average Monday night

In My Kitchen
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
In my kitchen, there’s a picture
A photograph of you and me
In my kitchen, there’s a kettle
So, I make a cup of tea
In my kitchen, there’s a novel
Another book for me to read
In my kitchen, I remember
When you used to visit me
How I miss your company
It would make me feel complete
But you had your life to lead
So, I had to set you free
In my kitchen, I remember
The little stories you would tell
In my kitchen, and forever
I remember you so well
In my kitchen, little moments
That came and then were gone
In my kitchen, I am older
But you will be forever young
How I miss your company
It would make me feel complete
But you had your life to lead
So, I had to set you free

Walk Away
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
I used to think I was invincible
I used to think I was a star
I used to think that I was ten feet tall
I used to think I would go far
But that all changed in an instant
That all changed so suddenly
The day you walked away from me
The day you walked away from me
I used to think I was romantic
I used to think that I had style
I used to think you were fantastic
I used to have you by my side
But that all changed in an instant
That all changed so suddenly
The day you walked away from me
The day you walked away from me

When You Were Mine
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
In the spaces in between
There was a place for you and me
And in the middle of the night
You would always hold me tight
Li Li Li
Through the misty eyes of time
I recall when you were mine
And as I watch the sunset fade
I recall the words you’d say
You were longing to be free
You didn’t want to be with me
Li Li Li
Through the misty eyes of time
I recall when you were mine
As I walk the city streets
Through the rain the through the sleet
To the café where we’d meet
I take a solitary seat
Li Li Li
Through the misty eyes of time
I recall when you were mine
Li Li Li
Through the misty eyes of time
I recall when you were mine

Adelaide
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2020
I’m leaving this town for the big city lights
I’m leaving this town to start a new life
I’ve packed my guitar and my old suitcase
I’ve filled up my car and now I’m leaving this place
I’m leaving behind the friends that I made
I’ll see them again one of these days
I’m heading west along the highway
I’m heading back to old Adelaide
Li Li Li Li Li Li Li Li Li
I’m heading back to my hometown
To familiar sights and familiar sounds
Back to the streets where once I did roam
Back to the city I used to call home

A Quiet Life
Words and music © Tim Hudspith, 2004
There were many nights of passion
And dreams of distant lands
There were sheets of silk and satin
And bold and noble plans
There were sunsets over oceans
And parties until dawn
There were days of wine and roses
And summers long and warm
There were friends and there were lovers
And strangers in the night
But those days are gone forever
Now I live a quiet life
There were boys all dressed in leather
With hair as black as coal
There were girls in flowing dresses
With necklines cut so low
There was music and emotion
And lovers in the dark
There was much anticipation
And many broken hearts
There were friends and there were lovers
And strangers in the night
But those days are gone forever
Now I live a quiet life
There were friends and there were lovers
And strangers in the night
But those days are gone forever
Now I live a quiet life
